Roadway Excavation & Place Minor Concrete – Various Locations
Design Intent
This project was designed to eliminate the dirt and vegetative areas in 14 locations in Contra Costa County and replace them with a new roadway structural section of PCC paving. The areas included shoulders, gore points, and ramps. In addition to the concrete paving, the project included a new Type 60M concrete barrier, wrought iron fencing, and CIPP drainpipe upgrades.
Final Result
Over 2000 cubic yards of materials were excavated. Approximately, 1,000 cubic yards of ADL Type Z2 materials were excavated and removed with special handling and disposed of as hazardous waste. Over 1,200 cubic yards of concrete were placed, to construct drainage ditches, curb and gutters, roadway paving, and concrete barriers. The existing drainage inlets were raised to the new elevations. A total of 470 linear feet of wrought iron fencing was installed. A total of 110 linear feet of the new concrete barrier, Type 60M, was constructed to protect an existing sign structure. A new SCI 100-GM Smart Crash Cushion was added to the new concrete barrier to enhance safety. Existing drainage systems were improved by Cured In Place Pipeliner. The project was finished out by installing new roadway signs and minor landscape upgrades.
